Work in progress: Big Orange Eye
Saturday, 01 December 2007 03:35

Image This is an illustration I've been working on in my spare time. It's not for anything specific, just playing around with different techniques in Adobe Illustrator. If you look closely at the iris of the eye, you can see the various radial patterns I used to create the texture. Most of these patterns came from the GoMedia Vector Packs that I have. The scales are were created from a stock shield vector and the eyebrow uses a number of different flame vectors. Again, I was playing around with various techniques and this has been created entirely in Illustrator (except for converting to a bit-map to display here).

The image to the left is a detail of the eye itself, you can see a full version by clicking "Read More" at the bottom.

More Audi S4 Illustrations
Tuesday, 27 November 2007 07:46

Image This is a little over a week old, but some images I created for AudiWorld appeared in an article titled Performance Preview: Exclusive Look at the B8 S4. The assigment was faily easy, they wanted a couple of images of what the next generation Audi S4 could look like. I didn't have much to go on, so these images are not as modified as they could be. Mainly I added some Audi S5 bits and peices to press photos of the next-generation Audi A4.

However, I did illustrate the lower side panels of the car to give them a more agressive look. The sky was replaced in both photos, using images from my Mitsubishi Outlander shoot. With a little color correction and lowering the vehicle a little, the images were complete. They took 2hrs each to do, if that. Overall, these weren't as envolved as the previous Audi A4/S4 illustrations I did for AudiWorld.

High-res versions of the two images can be found here and here

Major Changes
Sunday, 25 November 2007 04:30

Get out and drive logo If you're a somewhat regular visitor, you'll notice a drastic change to the site today. Since I haven't done much in the way of automotive photography this year, this site had gotten a little stale. Also, with my professional interests shifting a little, I wanted an outlet to showcase my other work as well. Rather than create a new website, I've decided to change the format of this website.

I'll still be posting my automotive photography as it comes up, but I'll also be featuring my graphic design and posting general blog entries. I'm hoping to add at least one new item a week, we'll see how that goes...

This new design is based upon a design I created for a business card and it has translated to the web nicely. The background pattern was created from a sketch I did (on a mouse pad, belive it or not), the logo was hand drawn on paper then recreated in Adobe Illustrator, and the color inspiration came from a wonderful site called ColourLovers.

There are still a few bugs and minor details to work out with this new design, but everything should be functional (at least in the latest FireFox and IE browsers). If you notice anything wacky, let me know.

I hope you enjoy this new site.

Triumph Motorcyles T-Shirt

For the past month or two I've been concentrating on my graphic design work more than my photography. This is due to many reasons, mainly because graphic design is my "day job" and it's what pays all the bills. I've also taken a newfound interest in areas that I haven't explored much in the past. Plus, with it being summer, taking time off and a severe lack of interesting vehicles to drive, I just haven't done a lot of photography in the past month (although I do have some interesting photos of a Honda Fit that I still need to process and get online).

One of the recent design projects I did was this Triumph Motorcycles graphic. I created this just for fun and thought it came out extremely well. I shared the design with one of the Triumph websites that I frequent and received a lot positive feedback, which encouraged me to actually have it printed on T-shirts.

With an addition of a shopping cart system on this website, those T-shirts are now available to purchase directly from this site.

While this isn't a photographic piece I hope that you enjoy it. If the shirt sells well, I plan on putting this design on other products like a sticker or maybe a different kind of shirt.

2006 Audi A8L

Well, it's been awhile since I've added anything new to the site, due to a number of reasons, the main being the winter in Colorado was a worse than normal this season, making it difficult to get out and photograph. Of course, I haven't reviewed many vehicles lately either, so that didn't help much either.

But now the weather is nice again and I've had a few vehicles to review again, some of which I'll be adding to the gallery shortly.

I shot this Audi A8L for AudiWorld.com a while back. It is a readers vehicle which is/was going to be featured on the site. I shot this back in September 2006 and have been waiting for it to be featured on their site before I added it here. It was going to be for a short feature, which is why there are only three shots here. Normally I would have done more, but I was with AudiWorld's editor at the time and he thought these would be sufficient for what he needed.

Update 5/30/07: This Audi A8L is now featured on AudiWorld.com, this marks the 2nd week in a row where I've made the "cover" of AudiWorld.

See the rest of the photos in the Gallery.

2009 Audi A4/S4 Photo Illustrations
Sunday, 27 May 2007 05:04

Image

AudiWorld.com asked me to create a photo illustration on what the next generation Audi A4 may possibly look like.  Rather than creating just one photo, I decided to create three: a Sedan, Avant and S4. All started life as Audi A5/S5 press photos, then I did my magic on them and added backgrounds from my own photos. I really like how all of them turned out, although I don't know for sure how accurate they are. Since they've been published, many people have stated that the next A4 won't have many of the A5 styling cues. Oh well, I was just going off the info I had at the time. Follow the links below to enjoy the rest of the photos and see higher resolution versions.

Exclusive Sneak Peek: Audi's 2009 A4

Other auto blog sites picked up the story: AutoBlog.com , Jalopnik and Winding Road.
